The Triassic

The Triassic was a time of experimentation in archosaurian body plans, which ranged from the wild drepanosaurs (the lemurs of their day), to the fierce predatory rauisuchians (a cross between a crocodile and a Tyrannosaurus), to the earliest dinosaurs, like Eoraptor lunensis, and their somewhat later relatives, like Coelophysis bauri. This era was the last great age for animals like Placerias (often incorrectly called "mammal-like reptiles"). Below are some original depictions of some of the animals that lived during the Triassic period. Please note that all images are © Robert Gay, unless otherwise noted.
