The Cretaceous

The Cretaceous period marked the end of the reign of the dinosaurs. Although one major clade (Aves) did survive the cataclysmic events at the end of the Cretaceous, no other dinosaurian groups did. The Cretaceous was the time of such famous animals as Tyrannosaurus, and Triceratops. Quite a few other dinosaurs lived during this time, although they may not be as well known in the public's eyes. The Cretaceous saw the epitome of the bipedal archosaurian body plan, and the most sophisticated set of teeth ever to evolve. The largest flying animals ever are from the Cretaceous, along with the smallest non-avian dinosaurs, like Microraptor.
